Cabrillo National Monument at sunset gives you the whole bay and downtown skyline in one frame, and Sunset Cliffs Park (technically Point Loma) delivers the county's most reliable west-facing sunset. Liberty Station's arts district is my rainy-day and portrait-detail backup.
On the light: The peninsula's elevation catches ocean breeze that keeps light clean of afternoon haze — colors saturate better here than the flat coastline.
Logistics worth knowing: Cabrillo Monument has a park entry fee and closes at sunset — I plan sessions so we're photographing during the hour before the ranger walks the loop at closing.
