San Diego Maternity Photography
Glowing maternity sessions capturing this brief, beautiful chapter. I'm Mikayla — a San Diego–based photographer chasing golden light across every coastal city, park, and canyon in the county. Over the past 8+ years I've delivered 400+ galleries for couples and families who wanted their real story told, not a stiff catalog of poses.

Maternity Photography in San Diego — my approach
The best maternity window is 30–36 weeks — you're comfortably rounded, still mobile, and glowing. I keep the pace unhurried, bring flowy fabric options, and shoot a mix of solo bump portraits and family images with your partner and older kids so you leave with both.
Common problems I solve
You don't feel photogenic pregnant
The gallery I deliver will change your mind. Maternity is a specific chapter and photographs beautifully — soft light, movement, a hand on the bump. You'll cry when you see them.
You waited too long to book
35+ weeks is still workable, but I recommend 30–34 weeks for the most comfortable session. If you're past that, call anyway — I'll fit you in if I can.
You want partner and older kids included
Standard maternity sessions include your partner and up to two older kids at no extra charge. The frames with older kids meeting the bump are the ones parents cry over.
You need wardrobe help
I keep a small client closet of flowy maternity dresses in earth tones and off-whites — free to borrow for your session.
What's included
- Pre-session consultation to plan location, timing, and outfits
- Professional on-location direction and gentle posing
- Full private online gallery with high-resolution edits
- Personal print release for family and social sharing
- Sneak peek gallery within 72 hours of the session

My process, start to finish
- 1. Inquiry & consult. Send a note or call 760-539-9932. I'll reply within 24 hours to talk timeline, location, and vision — no hard sell, just a real conversation about what you're picturing.
- 2. Book & plan. A 25% retainer holds your date. I send a full prep guide covering wardrobe palettes, kid-wrangling tricks, timeline math for weddings, and exactly when to arrive for the best golden-hour light at your chosen location.
- 3. Session day. Warm, patient, unhurried. I direct the whole time so you always know what to do — and still catch every real moment in between. For weddings I coordinate quietly with your planner, DJ, and family so the day flows.
- 4. Sneak peek & delivery. Sneak peeks in 72 hours. Full gallery in 2–6 weeks depending on the session type, delivered through a private online gallery you'll have forever. You can share, download, and print directly from the gallery.
- 5. Prints, albums, and beyond. After delivery I'm still here — I design heirloom albums, help you pick wall art sizes, and store your full-resolution gallery so you can order more prints years later.

Favorite maternity spots: golden-hour on any San Diego beach, the eucalyptus grove at Scripps Ranch, the wildflowers at Los Peñasquitos Preserve in spring, the San Diego Botanic Garden, and in-home sessions in your bedroom or nursery for the most intimate feel.
Pricing & timeline
Maternity sessions start at $400 for 60 minutes with 40+ edited images. Add-on newborn sessions save you $100 when booked together. I hold your date with a 25% retainer and finalize the balance 30 days before the shoot.
Why this session is worth it
Maternity is the shortest chapter and the one most parents wish they'd photographed. Give yourself the gift of a proper session — you will not regret it, and it makes a beautiful heirloom for the baby you're carrying.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should we book the session?
Between 30 and 36 weeks is the sweet spot. Book the session itself 6–8 weeks out to lock in your preferred date.
Can I use the client dress closet?
Yes — I have 8–10 flowing maternity dresses in muted, photograph-friendly colors, free to borrow. Available at consult.
Do you offer maternity + newborn packages?
Yes — booking both saves $100 off the newborn session and gives you a matched aesthetic across both galleries.
Where should we shoot?
In-home for intimate soft-light frames, beach for movement and flowing fabric, or a garden/orchard for organic backdrops. I'll recommend based on your due date and season.
What if I go into labor before the session?
Congratulations! We move to a newborn + fresh-postpartum session and I refund the maternity retainer. It's happened; we handle it warmly.
How far in advance should I book?
I book weddings 6–12 months ahead and portrait sessions 4–8 weeks out. Rush dates are sometimes possible — call me at 760-539-9932 and I'll check my calendar.
Do you travel across San Diego County?
Yes — every session includes free travel to all 26 cities in San Diego County, from Oceanside and Escondido down to Imperial Beach. I never charge mileage inside the county.
