Graduation Photography in San Diego — my approach

Graduation sessions capture the milestone photo you'll send to grandparents, use for the announcement, and hang next to the kindergarten portrait. I shoot on your campus, at a favorite San Diego spot, or a mix of both — always keeping the mood celebratory and relaxed.

Common problems I solve

You want campus photos before you leave

I know every San Diego campus by heart and shoot grad sessions weekly during grad season. Book 2–4 weeks out to lock in your date.

Announcements go out in a week

Rush turnaround is available for grad sessions — one-week delivery for a small fee, so you don't miss the announcement mail-out window.

You hate the standard cap-and-gown pose

Good, so do I. My grad sessions include intentional editorial framing, movement (the cap toss actually works when we do it right), and personality shots with your major or hobby.

Your family wants to be in a few frames

Included at no extra charge — parents, siblings, best friends, all fair game in the last 15 minutes.

What's included

  • Pre-session consultation to plan location, timing, and outfits
  • Professional on-location direction and gentle posing
  • Full private online gallery with high-resolution edits
  • Personal print release for family and social sharing
  • Sneak peek gallery within 72 hours of the session
  • Access to fine-art print shop and heirloom albums

My process, start to finish

  1. 1. Inquiry & consult. Send a note or call 760-539-9932. I'll reply within 24 hours to talk timeline, location, and vision — no hard sell, just a real conversation about what you're picturing.
  2. 2. Book & plan. A 25% retainer holds your date. I send a full prep guide covering wardrobe palettes, kid-wrangling tricks, timeline math for weddings, and exactly when to arrive for the best golden-hour light at your chosen location.
  3. 3. Session day. Warm, patient, unhurried. I direct the whole time so you always know what to do — and still catch every real moment in between. For weddings I coordinate quietly with your planner, DJ, and family so the day flows.
  4. 4. Sneak peek & delivery. Sneak peeks in 72 hours. Full gallery in 2–6 weeks depending on the session type, delivered through a private online gallery you'll have forever. You can share, download, and print directly from the gallery.
  5. 5. Prints, albums, and beyond. After delivery I'm still here — I design heirloom albums, help you pick wall art sizes, and store your full-resolution gallery so you can order more prints years later.

Locations I love in San Diego

A few of my favorite San Diego spots for graduation photography — click any city for local tips, best shooting hours, parking notes, and my go-to backup locations:

Campus favorites: SDSU's Hepner Hall, UCSD's Geisel Library steps, USD's Immaculata, Point Loma Nazarene's cliffs, and every San Diego high school on request. Off-campus favorites include Sunset Cliffs, Balboa Park, and the Coronado ferry landing for skyline backdrops.

Pricing & timeline

Graduation sessions start at $300 for 45 minutes, one outfit, and 30+ edited images. Extended 60-minute sessions with cap-and-gown plus one casual outfit start at $450. Rush turnaround (one-week delivery) available for a small fee if announcements are on a tight timeline.

Why this session is worth it

The grad portrait is a resume-line photo — it goes on LinkedIn, in the yearbook, in the family group chat, and eventually next to your kindergarten photo when you graduate the next thing. Doing it once, well, saves the awkward selfie-in-a-gown scramble.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I book a session on my campus?

Yes — I shoot regularly at SDSU, UCSD, USD, PLNU, MiraCosta, Cal State San Marcos, and every San Diego high school on request.

Do you offer group grad sessions with friends?

Yes — multi-grad sessions are a favorite and priced to split. Great for a group of college friends graduating together.

Should I bring my cap and gown to the session?

Yes — plus one casual outfit for the second half. I recommend bringing your diploma cover (many schools provide these at the ceremony) for the announcement shot.

Can we do sunset campus shots?

Absolutely — most schools allow it and the light is unbeatable. I'll suggest the best golden-hour spot on your specific campus.

What if it rains on session day?

I reschedule at no cost. Grad season in San Diego is dry so it rarely comes up, but if it does we're covered.

How far in advance should I book?

I book weddings 6–12 months ahead and portrait sessions 4–8 weeks out. Rush dates are sometimes possible — call me at 760-539-9932 and I'll check my calendar.

Do you travel across San Diego County?

Yes — every session includes free travel to all 26 cities in San Diego County, from Oceanside and Escondido down to Imperial Beach. I never charge mileage inside the county.
