Escondido gives me landscape variety no other North County city can match — Daley Ranch's cattle-country hills, Elfin Forest's chaparral canyons, Grape Day Park in the middle of downtown, and the vineyards north of San Pasqual Valley Road. I've shot ranch engagement sessions and downtown family portraits in the same city on the same weekend.
On the light: Inland heat means afternoons stay warm well past sunset — I recommend later start times year-round to catch the softest light without midday harshness.
Logistics worth knowing: Daley Ranch requires a moderate hike from the parking lot — great for adventure engagement sessions, not ideal for families with small kids.
