Poway is 'the city in the country' and that's not marketing — Lake Poway is a working reservoir surrounded by hiking trails, and Blue Sky Ecological Reserve feels like backcountry. I shoot most of my North County engagement sessions here because you get remote-looking backdrops 25 minutes from downtown.
On the light: The eastern hills throw shadow across Lake Poway by 5pm year-round, extending soft light by 30 minutes past what the beach cities get.
Logistics worth knowing: Iron Mountain trailhead sessions require a real hike — I only recommend it to fit couples who want an adventure engagement session and can carry gear.
